The Site Gauntlet: SEO Review of a Hollywood Yoga Studio

Hannah Martin • Apr 11, 2017

Hey there! Today is the first of a new SEO-site-review installment we’ll be doing called the  site gauntlet .

A lot of business owners are already swamped just trying to run their business, without having to break their backs trying to figure out SEO. So my goal with this series is to help these specific business owners AND help others learn something along the way by doing these reviews publicly.

Let’s jump right in!

The first business website we’re reviewing is for Hot Box Yoga in Hollywood. This yoga studio is currently under construction and will be opening this year. If the owner can make some progress in SEO before it opens, their classes will fill up sooner rather than later once they open!

Here is my video review:

New Paragraph

Here is the TL;DW version of things that need to be prioritized for this website:

  1. STEP 1: On-Page Content & Optimization

Get 500 words of content about Yoga in Hollywood on the homepage. Use h tags, add optimized photos, and update the meta title and description to include more keywords.

  2. STEP 2: Google+ Local Optimization

Claim and fill out the G+ Local profile, get it verified. All ya gotta do here is go to places.google.com and sign up for the listing. Build citations wherever you can with consistent NAP. **Make sure you’re sure of your phone number before doing this.. if you have to change anything after the fact, you’ll lose rankings! (And I’m 99% sure in this situation the name and address are solid right now.)

  3. STEP 3: G+ Local Tie-in

Tie this in to the website by adding the NAP in Schema markup and embedding the listing’s map into the website. **Here are a couple nifty schema markup creators: https://supple.com.au/tools/local-business-schema-generator/ and https://www.jamesdflynn.com/json-ld-schema-generator/

  4. STEP 4: Boost off-page signals

Build authority + relevance signals by continuing to build backlinks, social signals, and adding relevant content to the site.

I hope this helps others learn a bit more about how to apply local SEO to their own situation.. Let me know if you have any questions!
